Arbutus is close enough to our shop that we are often there before a homeowner has finished mopping. It is a compact, established community squeezed between Wilkens Avenue, the Baltimore Beltway and the rail corridor, and its plumbing reflects the era it was built in more consistently than Catonsville does.
Most of what we see here is post-war: solid brick and frame houses from the 1940s through the 1960s, many with modest additions done over the decades. That means copper supply more often than galvanized, cast iron drainage that is now sixty to eighty years old, and basements that were finished at some point without much thought given to the plumbing behind the paneling.
The calls that come out of Arbutus most often are water heaters, kitchen and bathroom drains, and sump pumps. It is a neighborhood where people stay a long time and maintain their houses, so a lot of our work here is helping someone get another decade out of a system rather than replacing it wholesale.
