    On every service call

Collins & Sons is based on Westowne Road, which means Catonsville is not a service area for us — it is the neighborhood. We have been under the sinks, in the crawl spaces and down the basement stairs of houses on both sides of Frederick Road for more than forty years, and there is a good chance we have worked on a house on your street.

That matters more than it sounds. Catonsville is not one housing stock, it is at least four, and the right answer changes with the era. A 1920s bungalow on Winters Lane with original galvanized supply and a cast iron stack needs a completely different conversation from a 1998 colonial off Rolling Road with PEX and a modern vent stack. Knowing which one you have before we arrive saves you money.

We handle the whole range here — a running toilet at ten in the morning, a water heater replacement with a Baltimore County permit, a sewer lateral under a hundred-year-old oak, a full repipe on a house that has been leaking once a year for a decade. Same family, same trucks, same phone number.

What we find in Catonsville homes

Two towns in one zip code

The pre-war housing near Frederick Road, Winters Lane, Ingleside and through Paradise and Westchester runs on galvanized supply and cast iron drainage that is now well past its design life. Move toward the Beltway, Rolling Road and Johnnycake Road and you are into post-war and later construction with copper, PVC and far fewer surprises. We quote differently for each because they are different jobs.

Hard water at 7 to 8.2 grains

Catonsville is on Baltimore City surface water, which arrives here at roughly 120 to 141 PPM. That is enough scale to shorten water heater life by years, seize angle stops, and clog aerators on a predictable schedule. We test hardness free on every visit — most homeowners have never seen the actual number for their address.

Mature trees and clay laterals

The oaks and maples that make streets like Ingleside Avenue worth living on are the same ones sending root hair into seventy-year-old clay sewer joints. Root intrusion is the single most common cause of the recurring main line backup in this town, and a camera inspection is what separates a maintenance interval from a real repair.

Basements that take water

Catonsville sits on rolling terrain dropping toward the Patapsco Valley, and plenty of basements — especially through Woodbridge Valley and the lower Johnnycake corridor — sit at or below surrounding grade. Summer storms deliver high rainfall rates onto clay soil that will not absorb it, and the power tends to fail in the same hour the pit fills.

Neighborhoods and landmarks we work around

We cover all of Catonsville and the surrounding Baltimore County communities, including 21228, 21229, 21250. Areas we are in regularly:

  • Frederick Road commercial district
  • Winters Lane

  • Paradise
  • Westchester
  • Oak Forest
  • Woodbridge Valley

What Catonsville customers tell us

Catonsville customers tell us the same three things: we explain the work before we do it, we charge what we quoted, and we clean up after ourselves. That is the whole business model.

I had an outstanding experience with Collins & Sons LLC. Daniel has done several projects at my home over the last 4 years. He has helped me with small projects (replacing a garbage disposal), large projects (renovating my patio) and random projects. No mat…

Plumbing questions from Catonsville

Are you actually based in Catonsville?

Yes — 209 Westowne Rd, Catonsville, MD 21229. Not a call center with a local number. That is why our response time in 21228 and 21229 is what it is.

Do you know the Baltimore County permit process?

We pull permits for water heaters, sewer work and gas piping as a matter of routine and meet the inspector ourselves. You never deal with the county office.

My house is from the 1920s. Do you work on old plumbing?

It is most of what we do here. Galvanized supply, cast iron stacks, ten-inch toilet roughs and plaster-and-lath walls are the normal working conditions in this part of town, and we plan around them rather than being surprised by them.
