Greenbelt is one of the most interesting places we work. The original core is a 1930s federal planned community — purpose-built, architecturally coherent, and largely intact, with much of it still operating as a housing cooperative.
Original Greenbelt housing was built with the materials of its day: galvanized supply and cast iron drainage, in compact, efficiently planned units. Ninety years on, both are well past design life, and the cooperative structure means work frequently needs coordinating with the association as well as the resident.
Around the historic core sit decades of later development with conventional modern systems. Two very different jobs in one town, and we ask which before quoting.

Do you work with housing cooperatives?
Yes. We provide documentation of what we find and what we did, which owners can take to the association. Where responsibility for shared systems is unclear, evidence is worth more than an argument.
Is the original Greenbelt plumbing still in service?
Frequently at least in part. Original galvanized supply and cast iron drainage from the 1930s is common wherever it has not been replaced. A basement or utility survey identifies it quickly.
How far out is Greenbelt?
About twenty-eight miles. Prince George's County is part of our service area and we schedule work in the northern part of it regularly.
