Mount Airy straddles the Carroll and Frederick County line at one of the higher elevations in our service area, and that shows up in the work. Winters are meaningfully colder here than in Catonsville, and freeze-related calls are a bigger share of what we do.
The housing mix runs from an older town center to newer subdivisions built during the last few decades, plus rural parcels on private wells in the surrounding countryside. What should I do if a pipe freezes?
Shut off the main water valve immediately — if the pipe has split, thawing it is when the flooding starts. Do not use an open flame. Call us and we will locate the freeze and thaw it safely, then talk about why that section froze.
How do I winterize a house that sits empty?
At minimum, keep heat on at a low setting, shut off and drain exterior fixtures, and insulate exposed runs. For a genuinely unoccupied winter, a proper drain-down is the safe answer. We can do it and reverse it in spring.
