Westchester is a neighborhood where people arrive and do not leave. That produces beautifully maintained houses and a very particular plumbing situation: systems that have been repaired, extended and partially replaced by a succession of owners over eighty years, with nobody keeping a record.

Open a Westchester basement and you will frequently find three eras of pipe in the same run. Original galvanized. A 1970s copper branch to a remodeled bathroom. A more recent PEX run to a kitchen addition. Each repair was sensible at the time, and the junctions between them are where corrosion now runs fastest.

Our job on these houses is usually to map before we fix. Understanding what is actually there turns an unpredictable series of leaks into a plan you can budget for, which is what most of our Westchester customers actually want.

What we find in Westchester homes

Mixed-metal junctions

Where galvanized meets copper without a dielectric fitting, corrosion accelerates at the junction. In a house repaired in pieces over decades those junctions are everywhere, and they are where a surprising share of "random" leaks turn out to be.

Long ownership, deferred documentation

Houses that have not changed hands in thirty years often have undocumented past work behind finished walls. A whole-house survey before any larger project is genuinely worth the hour it takes.

Cast iron drainage at eighty years

Horizontal cast iron runs corrode along the bottom and hard water scale narrows what is left. When we open a floor here we check the underside of the horizontal runs and the hub connections as a matter of routine.

What Westchester customers tell us

Westchester runs on neighbours recommending neighbours. That is a good discipline for a contractor — you cannot get away with a rushed job on a street where everyone talks.

I had an outstanding experience with Collins & Sons LLC. Daniel has done several projects at my home over the last 4 years. He has helped me with small projects (replacing a garbage disposal), large projects (renovating my patio) and random projects. No mat…

Plumbing questions from Westchester

Should I repipe the whole house or keep patching?

One leak in an otherwise sound system is a repair. Two or more in different rooms within a couple of years means the system is telling you something. We show you both numbers — a full repipe and continued patching over five years — and let you decide.

Can a repipe be done in stages?

Yes, and for many houses here that is the right approach. We start with the basement trunk lines and risers, because that is where most of the pressure restriction lives, then complete branch runs later. The phases are planned so nothing done first gets torn out second.

Why does my water pressure keep getting worse?

In a house of this era it is usually corroded galvanized narrowing from the inside — but a failed pressure reducing valve produces an identical symptom at a fraction of the repair cost. We test at the meter and at the house before recommending anything expensive.

Pre-1950 houses need a different approach. We upgrade galvanized supply and cast iron drainage without tearing apart what makes the house worth owning.

Whole-House Repiping in Westchester

When a house starts leaking in a second place, patching stops being the cheap option. We repipe in stages or all at once, with the smallest openings possible.

Leaky Pipe Repair in Westchester

We repair the leak and then pressure-test the run — because in an older house the drip you found is often the second-oldest problem in the wall.

We clear the clog, then camera the line to show you what caused it — because in an older Catonsville home a slow drain is rarely just hair and soap.
